What are Class 2 and Class 1 medicals?
Class 2 is a basic medical test required to start your flying training (for SPL), and Class 1 is required for CPL and ATPL.
Where can I get a Class 2 medical done?
From DGCA-approved Class 2 doctors (list available on the DGCA site).
What tests are included in Class 2 medical?
Eye test, blood pressure, urine test, hearing, and basic physical exam (advisable to consult a doctor before going for the test).
What tests are in Class 1 medical?
ECG, X-ray, audiometry, vision, blood test, urine test, and physical exam at DGCA-approved centers.
How long is a medical valid for?

Class 2 INITIAL: 2 years

Single crew environment:
Class 1: 1 year (for < 40 age)
Class 1: 6 months (for > 40 age)

Multi-crew environment:
Class 1: 1 year (for < 60 age)
Class 1: 6 months (for > 60 age)

Can I be rejected in a medical?
Yes, for serious issues like poor vision, heart, or neurological issues.
Is fasting required for medicals?
Sometimes for blood tests – follow the instructions given by the center.
Can I wear glasses and still become a pilot?
Yes, within DGCA limits.
Where is Class 1 medical done?
At centers like AFCME Delhi, IAM Bengaluru, Apollo Chennai, etc.
How long does it take to get a medical assessment?
Class 2: 2 to 3 months
Class 1: 2 to 3 months
What if I’m declared temporarily unfit?
You can reattempt after treatment or further review.
