What is RTR (Aero)?
A license issued by WPC (under Ministry of Communications) to use aircraft radio equipment legally.
Why is RTR needed?
It is mandatory to communicate with ATC and operate aircraft radios during flights.
When should I appear for RTR?
Ideally during ground classes but mandatory before CPL issue.
Who conducts RTR exams?
The WPC (a wing of Communication Ministry) conducts it.
What are the parts of the RTR exam?
Part 1: Practical (radio telephony procedures)
Part 2: Oral viva (regulations, technical questions, phraseology)
How often is the RTR exam conducted?
Every 2 months in major metro cities.
Is RTR very difficult?
Yes, many students find it challenging. Proper practice is essential.
What is the passing rate of RTR?
Varies per session; around 20–40% pass rate on average.
Is coaching required for RTR?
Highly recommended, especially for Part 2 oral.
Is RTR required before airline interview?
Yes. It is mandatory for issuance of CPL.
What is the validity of the RTR license?
Lifetime, unless suspended due to misconduct.
